The London Borough of Bexley have a duty to provide a SEND Information Advice and Support Service (IASS). The service is provided at arm’s length from Bexley Local Authority and provides Information Advice and Support to children and young people with special educational needs and their parents in line with the Children and Families Act (2014).

The work is guided by the “Minimum Standards for SEND Information Advice and Support Services” (Appendix A) issued by the Council For Disabled Children on behalf of the Department for Education and the Department of Health and Social Care in 2018.

This Advisory Board has been set up to guide the work of the service and to ensure that it develops in ways that ensure it fulfils its duty under these standards.

The IASS Advisory Board has representation from a number of services and professionals to support IASS in shaping and developing it’s service for families of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

The group includes parents who have been with the service and are well placed to provide parental prospective on the effectiveness in the services delivered.

The role of the Bexley IASS Advisory Board is to:

  • guide and monitor the development of the service
  • act as a critical friend
  • identify gaps and to work with IASS to identify ways to address these
  • ensure IASS is accessible to all sections of the community
  • ensure that IASS maintains impartiality and is seen to be at arms length form the Local Authority and statutory services
  • take an active role in promoting and increasing awareness of the IASS service

Bexley IASS Young Person Advisory Board Invite

Bexley Information, Advice & Support Service (IASS) would like to invite a young person to join our Advisory Board as a Young Person Advisor.

We are keen to invite young people aged between 16 – 25 to be part of the Bexley IASS steering group to help IASS shape and develop its service for families of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

If you have a good understanding of SEND and / or lived experience and you feel you want to be part of the Advisory Board supporting IASS in the delivery of a high quality service, then please contact us to discuss further. You may wish to take part in Meeting Skills Participation training which can take place through workshops or Virtual 1-2-1s.
